Richard Turner, 73, who lived his entire life in Port Matilda, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
He was born June 21, 1937, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Dale Turner and Mildred Hicks Turner Davis. On July 20, 1957, he married the former Dorothy Ann Rudy, who survives at home. Richard attended State College Area High School and drove truck all his life for different companies. He was a truck driver for Roadway Express in Harrisburg, having retired after 25 years in 1994.
He was of the Methodist faith. Richard started and coached Port Matilda Teener League. He was a member, past president and past vice-president of Port Matilda Borough Council. He also enjoyed hunting. During his retirement, he enjoyed his memberships at the Tyrone Elks, Snow Shoe Moose, Bellefonte Eagles, Port Matilda Legion and Fraternal Order of Police #51.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Theresa Peters and her husband, Bob, of Port Matilda; two sons, R. Alan Turner and his wife, Betty, of Rebersburg, and Jeffrey Turner and his wife, Amy, of Julian; a sister, Elsie Merrow, of Morrisdale; nine grandchildren, Cory and Megan Peters, R. Alan Turner Jr., Jaclyn Turner Crestani (Doug), Jennifer Turner Veneziano (Nate), Danielle Turner, Doug Turner, Lexi Turner and Nicholas Turner; a step-grandchild, Chad Turner; and three great-grandchildren, Brandon Veneziano, Grace Crestani and Faith Crestani. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Turner and Donald Turner; and two sisters, Margaret Heidenfeldt and Janet Turik.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg. Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Sam Reese officiating. An Elks Memorial Service will be held at 8:00 P.M.
