Obituary of Richard Yarnell, 64

Richard Edward Yarnell, 64, passed away on July 31, 2012, in Manassas, Virginia. Richard was a graduate of Bellefonte High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Pennsylvania State University. Following his graduation, Richard joined the Air Force where he served during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from active duty, he continued his service to his country by joining the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC. Richard served as an Intelligence Officer for over 3 decades, serving his country through Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the attacks of 9/11. Richard retired from the DIA in 2010 at a grade of GS-15. In his golden years, Richard enjoyed fishing, softball and became an accomplished chef. He dedicated his life to his daughter Kristy and his beloved dog and companion Millie.
Richard is survived by his daughter Kristy Yarnell of Centreville, Virginia, his parents Edward and Rachel Yarnell of Pleasant Gap, PA, his sister Patty Eckenroth and his brother Rev. Dr. Jerry Yarnell.
Friends will be received Tuesday, August 7, 2012, from 12-1 pm, at the St. Mark Lutheran Church, 160 N. Main St., Pleasant Gap, PA 16823. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm, with Reverend Kevin Shock officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Zion Union Cemetery, Walker Township.
