Obituary of Sarah Newman, 86

Sarah E. Newman, 86 of Milesburg, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at her home. She was born in Bellefonte on October 17, 1924, a daughter of the late Henry and Elsie Johnsonbaugh Gettig.

On April 4, 1942, she married Blain E. Newman who preceded her in death on October 12, 1994.

Sarah was employed at the Match Factory, the Howard Nursery, G.C. Murphy and along with her husband had their own business for many years.

She was a member of the Milesburg American Legion Women's Auxillary, Bellefonte VFW, and the Milesburg Historical Society.

Sarah is survived by four daughters; Peggy Newman of Duncansville, Ruth (Max) Barndt of Milesburg, Ilene (Barry) Barner of Howard and Kimberly (Richard) Hurley of Mprrisdale, a son; Richard (Carol) Newman of Milesburg, a sister; Clara Belle Vonada of Howard, two brothers; Gene Gettig of Florida and Vernon of Maine, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren, 4 step-children and 1 step-great-great grandchild.

Services are Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 W. Main Street, Howard, with the Rev. Brian D. Vasey officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Jacksonville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
