Susan J. Carnevale, 66, of State College, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Bellefonte. Born on July 7, 1952, in Queens Village, New York, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Katherine P. Palmese Carnevale.

Susan was a 1970 graduate of The Mary Louis Academy in Queens, New York and went on to graduate with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Queens College in the field of Communication Science and Disorders. She was most proud of her Master’s Degree as a Speech Pathologist from Syracuse University. She worked at Upstate Medical University as a supervisor for Speech and Language Pathology in the Communication Disorder Unit for many years before and after her private practice. She also supervised students in the Gebbie Speech & Hearing Clinic at Syracuse University.

Susan most recently attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte and was previously a devoted member to Faith Lutheran Church in Cicero, NY. She loved nature photography, perennial gardening, cooking, hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and entertaining guests in her home. She loved to be around water, fishing and kayaking. She enjoyed the theater, operas and live music. Susan was very generous in giving to the needs of others near and far. She regularly supported several charities and was a long-time listener and member of public radio.

To those that knew her she was a stubborn Italian red head but would fight for what she believed in with peaceful activism and organizing her community. Her favorite sayings were, “find the good in every day”, and “no grumps allowed”.

Susan is survived by her two children; Jana K. Scott and her husband, Allan, of Pleasant Gap and Jay F. Finkenstadt of Morrisville, VT and by one granddaughter, Brynn Scott. Also surviving are her two brothers; Michael Carnevale and his wife, Marianne, of Wellington, FL and Frank Carnevale and his wife, Diane, of Massapequa, NY.

Visitation will be on March 2, 2019 from 10-11am at the Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. Memorial services will be held after visitation at 11am at the church with Pastor Andrew Morgan officiating. Burial will be at Eagle Cemetery in Howard Township.
