William F. Harris, Jr., of State College, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at the age of 82. Bill was born on March 28, 1931, in Tyrone, to Catherine Sprankle Harris and William F. Harris, Sr.
He graduated from the State College Area High School in 1949, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 through 1954.
Upon his retirement from the Bell Telephone Co. in 1992, Bill indulged his avid love of history, the Civil War and the genealogical origins of his family. He loved his family, his schnauzer, Dexter, and a good cigar while overlooking the Atlantic from the dunes of the Outer Banks.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jean, of State College; son, William Patrick and his wife, Nancy, of Mountain Top; daughter, Kimberly and her husband, James Knudson, of Mechanicsburg; and son, Kelly and his wife, Melanie, of State College.
Friends will be received at a remembrance to be held Sunday February 16, 2014, at 3 p.m. in the Alumni Fireside Lounge at the Nittany Lion Inn on the Penn State campus. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
