William Talbot Brown, 99, of State College, and formerly of Meadowbrook, Pocono Pines, and Englewood, Fla., passed away on July 1, 2010.
Born on Oct. 27, 1910, in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of the late David Symton Brown and Mary Baird Lindsey-Talbot. He emigrated from Scotland with his family in August of 1923 and settled in Philadelphia. Following graduation, from Frankford High School, he attended local technical schools and was self-educated as a draftsman and mechanical engineer. He retired in 1972 from the Philadelphia Gear Corporation where he was Vice President.
In 1935 he married the former Ruth Becker Leslie, who died July 27, 1999, Bill is survived by a daughter, Barbara and her husband, Ralph DeShong, of Stormstown and a son, Leslie Brown and his wife, Cheri, of Hatfield; by grandchildren, Scott DeShong and his wife, Rebecca, of State College, Sheri Rice and her husband, David, of Lititz, Todd and his wife, Patricia, and Heather Smink and her husband, John, all of Lansdale; and by eight great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and companion, Ruth Balthaser. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, David and two sisters, Ann Dauerbach and Barbara Gamble.
Bill was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, State College. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the cemetery at Bethel United Methodist Church, Lansdale.
