Richard “Dick” William Houtz, of State College, Pa., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2021. Dick was born on March 29, 1929 in State College. Dick was preceded in death by his parents Earl Henry and Carrie Rishel Houtz, of State College. His wife of 55 years, Dorothy Briggs Houtz. Two sisters Dorothy Morring, of State College, and Betty Russell, of Douglasville, Pa.
Dick is survived by his two sons, Richard Steven Houtz, of Awendaw, S.C., and Craig Houtz of Bellefonte. One sister Helene Foreman, of Towanda, Pa.
Dick was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Navy, having served during the Korean War in 1948-1952.
After graduating from State College Area High School in 1947, Dick began work as a typesetter for The Centre Daily Times/Nittany Publishing . In 1960 he went to work for Commerical Printing for 31 years until his retirement in 1991 .
Dick was especially proud of being a parking supervisor at Penn State football home games for 50+ years. In 2015, he switched jobs and started working elevators at the suites at Beaver Stadium. He also worked Penn State sporting events at Rec Hall and Bryce Jordan Center.
Due to health issues, Dick had to retire from those responsibilities with Penn State athletics in late 2016.
Due to current heath and safety situations, Dick requested there be no visitation or memorial service. Interment will be at convenience of family. Dick also requested that In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Centre Volunteers in Medicine, State College, Pa. cvim.net
