Ronald L. Wiser, 87 of Bellefonte, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. Ron was born in Philipsburg on September 25, 1934 a son of the late Therman and Sarah Woodring Wiser. He was the last of his generation. Ron is survived by his wife Melinda Burns Wiser at home. Also surviving are his children, Deborah L. Wiser of Boalsburg, Rich A. Wiser of Philipsburg, Christopher Wiser of State College and his step-daughter Jami (Tim) Miller of Mill Hall; his 2 grandchildren, Erica Wiser and Zach Wiser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Myers Wiser in 1974, his siblings, Therman Wiser, Jr., Gerald Wiser, Beatrice Filewich and Richard Wiser.
Ron was employed by Penn State University as a system analyst before his retirement. He was secretary of the bowling league even back in the days of Centre Lanes on N. Atherton Street before it burned down. He was an assistant scout master at Port Matilda. He started the “Deli Diner” in the Crider Exchange building and the antique emporium in the former Plaza Movie Theatre. Ron also served many years as an ambulance attendant (now called EMT’s) in Port Matilda. He also served on the Port Matilda annual Port alumni reunion committee. I have often heard “it takes a busy man to get things done” and he was a busy man. Ron worked hard all his life and had a lifetime of accomplishments including designing and building the Port Matilda fire hall when he was 17 years old and building many homes and later buying and managing several commercial and residential units in Bellefonte.
Ron was an officer at the Port Matilda Baptist Church. He was a member of Bellefonte VFW. He enjoyed all sports, going to yard sales, and the Plaza
Antique Center. He was a NASCAR fan. He enjoyed watching over his properties in Bellefonte.
