Shirley Sandra Sturtz-Davis, 89, of State College, died Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born April 1, 1937, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Frank P. and LaRue (Barnes) Zampelli. She was preceded in death by two husbands, William Sturtz and William Davis.
She is survived by five children, Kraig W. Sturtz, MD and his wife Cindy of New Oxford, Steffany R. McQueary and her fiancé Alexander Stallman of State College, Kim Walker and her husband Mike of Auckland, New Zealand, Bryan Davis and his husband Will McCoy of San Francisco, and Mark Davis of State College; five grandchildren, Nathan Walker, John McQueary, Matthew Walker, Erin McQueary, and Gillian Sturtz. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, James, and Edward Zampelli.
Shirley graduated from Lewistown High School and received her bachelor’s degree and Masters of Arts degree from Penn State University. She retired from the Shippensburg University (SU) art department in 1998. Prior to this she served as director of the SU Fashion archives from 1989 through 1996. She was director of the CIU 10 Arts in Education Program, a partnership with Penn State, from 1976 through 1989. She was a writer, consultant and artistic juror. She was a talented artist and teacher. She enjoyed creating art using watercolors as well as traveling, gardening and caring for Bonsai trees.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
