Steven J. “Monk” Muirhead, 73, of Snow Shoe, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, surrounded by his family at Centre Care Nursing Home in Bellefonte. He was born in Bellefonte, on July 21, 1952, to the late Edward L. and Caroline (Almashie) Muirhead. On June 7, 1980, in Snow Shoe, he married his beloved wife of 45 years, Kathy L. (Tressler) Muirhead who survives at home.

Monk was a 1970 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam. For his time of service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. Monk worked various places but most recently he retired from Rockview in 2017 after 13 years of service .

He lived a life full of hard work, laughter and love for his family. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed hunting and spending time in nature. He also had a deep passion for racing, whether attending the track or watching sprint cars. Monk could be found in his workshop, woodworking, tinkering and creating projects, but never in a hurry to finish them!

One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren grow, attending their sporting events and sharing in their achievements. He cherished every moment with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Brandy Lose and her husband Jayson of Bellefonte, Jeremy Muirhead of Snow Show, and four grandchildren, Adeline Lose, Quentin Muirhead, Jaylee Lose, Haylee Muirhead, Reagan Lose, and one great grandson on the way.

Also surviving are his two sisters, Gloria Lohr and her husband Larry Sr. of Bellefonte and Carol Butterworth of State College, sister-in-law, Bonnie Ryver and her husband Philip Ramish of Bellefonte, and sister-in-law, Deb Tressler of Bellefonte.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Edna Muirhead, his mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Adeline Tressler, and brother-in-law, Tom Tressler, jr.

Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are

under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. and Victorian Crematory, Bellefonte.
