William E. Baney, III, 68, of Lock Haven, PA  passed away, surrounded  by his loved ones on June 12, 2026,  in Lock Haven,  PA after a 35 year battle with brain cancer.

Born August 17, 1957  in Lock Haven, PA to the late William E. Baney, Jr. and Lucille (Dicello) Baney, Bill attended Lock Haven High School and graduated in 1975.  He also received an Associate’s Degree from Williamsport Area Community College.

Bill was married on March 17, 1979 to the former Carla Eggler of Woolrich.  On their 20th anniversary they went on their first of over 45 cruises where Bill became a Diamond Club member.

Bill ran for mayor of the city of Lock Haven in 1975.  However, he was disqualified because at the time, the law required a mayor elected to a city the size of Lock Haven to be 21 years old, and he was only 17.  After his failed mayoral campaign, Bill had a long and distinguished career as an FM radio disc jockey.  He worked for many radio stations in the area including WBPZ, WRAK, WFXX, WKSB, WMPT, WZXR, WILQ (known to locals as “Ole Buddy Bill”), and WBUS. During his time as a disc jockey, he interviewed many famous acts and celebrities including, Joe Namath and Vice President Dan Quayle.  Bill founded the Bill Baney DJ Entertainment Service and provided entertainment for countless events, including weddings and the Kent’s Fest.   He was later joined by his good friend Doug Fetzer and formed B&D Entertainment Services.   In 2000, Bill became a telecommunicator with the Clinton County Department of Emergency Services (9-1-1 Communications) and continued in that position until retiring in 2017.  In 2008, Bill continued his political career when he was elected as a city councilman for the City of Lock Haven.  He served two-terms as city councilman. In 2016 he was elected as the mayor of the City of Lock Haven and served one term ending in 2020.  He immensely enjoyed conversations with residents to solve the problems of his constituents. During his time as councilman and mayor, he was instrumental in securing an agreement with the Nature Conservatory to preserve drinking water for city residents and establishing the Lock Haven Summer Concert Series.

He was a coach for the Knights of Columbus Baseball Team and a proud sponsor of the 2016 Lock Haven/Flemington Little League “Mayor Baney” team. He also coached his daughter Beth’s softball teams. He enjoyed boating with family and friends on the Susquehanna River, including Sunday concerts during the Summer Concerts series where he would introduce the bands.  He enjoyed traveling  and spending time with family and friends and was an avid New York Jets Fan.

He is survived by his beloved wife Carla (Eggler) of Lock Haven, a daughter; Elizabeth (Zachary) Maffett of Woolrich, a son William E. (Nikki) Baney, IV of Watsontown. He is also survived by a grandson; Lawson Baney, and a granddaughter;  Ryanne Baney who affectionately knew him as “Pappy.”  A  brother Joseph A. (Charlotte) Baney of McElhattan, a  sister Catherine (George) Gedon of Lock Haven, a brother in law, Donald L. Eggler, Jr. of Mill Hall; a nephew, Michael A. (Katie) Gedon and nieces Kristen (Evan) Fisher and Kelly Jo Gedon.

Family and friends will be received in the  Gedon Funeral Homes and Cremation Services LLC., 121 W. Main Street, Lock Haven, PA on Monday evening,  Monday, June 15, 2026 from 5 to 7 PM.  Private interment will be at the convenience of the family.
