Patton Township Man Accused of Raping, Sexually Assaulting 6 Women

Police arrested a Patton Township man on Monday for the alleged rape and sexual assault of six women in his Oakwood Avenue home over the course of nine years.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Patton Township police, Kevin Mullen, 50, met each of the women online — four through dating website SeekingArrangement, one through Craigslist and one through Facebook messenger.

The first alleged rape occurred in 2012. A woman told investigators that Mullen raped her after she responded to a Craigslist ad for a house cleaning job. After the assault, Mullen allegedly locked her in a bedroom and she used a butter knife to remove hinge pins from the door and escape.

Subsequent alleged rapes or sexual assaults occurred in 2017, 2019, 2020 and in March of this year.

Each of the women described similar details about their encounters with Mullen, according to the complaint.

Mullen allegedly told three of the women that he had raped others and “gotten away with it.”

The investigation began when a woman contacted police earlier this year and five other women were later identified, according to a press release from Patton Township police. The Centre County District Attorney’s Office, Ferguson Township police and State College police assisted in the investigation, which is ongoing. Mullen is charged with felony counts of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and strangulation. He also is charged with multiple misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and simple assault.

He was arraigned before District Judge Casey McClain and was unable to post $750,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 24.
