Penn State Basketball: Big Ten Releases Double and Single Play Opponent Scheduling

Penn State men’s basketball will face seven “double-play” opponents and six “single-play” opponents during the Big Ten’s 20-game schedule. The conference announced the tentative opponent scheduling on Thursday afternoon.

In turn under new head coach Micah Shrewsberry, Penn State will play home and away games against Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State and Rutgers in 2021-22.

Penn State will face Michigan, Nebraska and Shrewsberry’s former team the Purdue Boilermakers at the Bryce Jordan Center but will not face any of those three teams on the road. The Nittany Lions’ 2020 game against Michigan at the Jordan Center was canceled due to COVID-19 issues but was never rescheduled.

The Nittany Lions will have away games for single-play opponents against Illinois, Maryland and Wisconsin. Dates, network assignments and times for the Big Ten contests will be announced later this year.

According to Penn State, the final 2020-21 kenpom.com rankings for strength of schedule had Penn State atop the list at +19.38, the highest final value in the 20-year history of kenpom.com. Nine Big Ten Conference teams held spots on the final kenpom.com top-10 list for strength of schedule in 2020-21.
