Penn State Football: Receivers Coach Taylor Stubblefield Relieved of Duties

Penn State wide receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield has been relieved of his duties the program announced on Sunday evening. Head coach James Franklin released a statement announcing the change.

“I would like to thank Taylor for his efforts during his time with Penn State but feel it is in our program’s best interest to make a change at this time. I wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future,” Franklin said.

Stubblefield, who was hired by Franklin prior to the 2020 season, released his own statement on Twitter shortly thereafter.

“I’m so proud of the contributions the wide receivers have made to this team,” Stubblefield wrote. “It has been an honor to help develop a first round draft pick, at this institution, for the first time since 2003. I’m thrilled that a Penn State receiver, now holds the record for the longest reception in Rose Bowl history. It has also been a privilege to work alongside some of the great minds in all of college football.”

Generally speaking, Penn State had managed a fairly successful run of receiver play under Stubblefield’s watch, highlighted by the growth of future No. 16 overall draft choice in Jahan Dotson. Aside from Dotson, Penn State had seen solid receiver production by Parker Washington and Mitchell Tinsley since Dotson’s departure to the NFL but had limited consistent depth beyond those two. It’s unclear at this time if Stubblefield’s departure was performance related.
