Penn State football’s busy night continued Sunday evening as Kent State transfer Dante Cephas committed to the Nittany Lions giving Penn State its top transfer portal target. The news came in soon after the announcement that receivers’ coach Taylor Stubblefield had been fired after three seasons with the program.

Cephas spent four seasons with Kent State, becoming a more prominent name at his position the last two season as he racked up 1,984 yards and 12 touchdowns on 130 receptions. Cephas entered the transfer portal in early December and was a key target for Penn State ever since, especially in the wake of wideout Parker Washington’s announcement that he would enter the NFL Draft.

With Cephas now in the fold, Penn State boasts a bit more experience at an otherwise slightly unproven position. The Nittany Lions will also lean on wideout KeAndre Lambert-Smith, whose up-and-down career hit its highest point yet with two standout performances in Penn State’s final two games of the year. An increasingly consistent Lambert-Smith coupled with Cephas and a host of younger talent could prove to be suitable supporting cast for presumed starting quarterback Drew Allar.

Cephas is Penn State’s second receiver transfer portal commitment in as many years following in the footsteps of Mitchell Tinsley, who transferred to State College after a stint with Western Kentucky.
