Former Penn State men’s basketball big man John Harrar has accepted an invitation to Philadelphia Eagles’ mini camp, his agent, Blake Fromang of Tier 1 Sports Management, confirmed to StateCollege.com. While it is still to be determined, Harrar is likely set to workout with the Eagles as a tight end.
Harrar – somewhat obviously – did not play football while at Penn State but did in high school, playing both tight end defensive end while at Strath Haven High School in Delaware County and did turn down Division I offers to continue his career on the gridiron. Before deciding to play basketball at Penn State, he committed to play football at Army.
The Eagles are set to hold mini camp on May 6-7, according to league scheduling.
If Harrar were to find a place in the Eagles’ franchise he wouldn’t be the first former Penn State men’s basketball player to make it in the NFL. Former forward Ross Travis found himself playing for six different NFL franchises making the active roster for the Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets. Travis has played in 29 regular season NFL games but saw his career derailed by a ALC tear in 2018. He was last signed to the Detroit Lions’ practice squad in 2021.
As for the nuts and bolts, it’s unknown what Harrar currently weighs, but his final Penn State roster updated listed the big man at 6-foot-9 and 240 pounds. That would make Harrar the tallest tight end on the Eagles’ roster.
