Penn State Men’s Basketball: No Timeline for Myles Dread Return

no description

Penn State senior guard Myles Dread is back in action with the Nittany Lions this summer but when the shooting ace will be able to fully return to contact and regular play still remains to be seen, according to head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

“It’s a long process,” Shrewsberry said on Tuesday. “I don’t know if I can get into the details of everything, but it was a pretty significant injury. He is back. He is doing non-contact drills. He’s jumping into drills when he can, and he’s leading from the side when he can’t. It’s a process in terms of what he’s doing. He’s shooting jumpers, he’s working out, so he’s back. He’s just not doing any contact stuff, and that’s OK.”

Dread was seen on Tuesday afternoon taking part in some drills as the Nittany Lions practiced at the Bryce Jordan Center but was visibly still straining in early stretching periods with his shooting shoulder. Dread had previously revealed that he played the 2021-22 season with what he described as a “severely torn labrum.” Dread underwent surgery following the Nittany Lions’ 2021-22 season after playing with his shoulder heavily wrapped for the entire campaign.

“I don’t have a timetable of when he gets back fully or when he’ll be able to start doing contact stuff, but Myles is a fifth-year senior,” Shrewsberry said. “He’s going to know — he doesn’t need to box out to know – I need to box out here every possession. There’s things that he doesn’t need to do [right now].”

Fortunately for Penn State, with the rise of shooter Dallion Johnson, the consistency of forward/guard Seth Lundy, veteran presence Jalen Pickett and an influx of new faces like Kanye Clary, Dread won’t have to be rushed back anytime soon, especially with months before Penn State’s season begins.
