Penn State Men’s Basketball to Host Miami in Big Ten/ACC Challenge

no description

Penn State men’s basketball will host Miami in this year’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Wednesday, Dec. 1, the program announced on Monday.

Specific broadcast information is still to be determined, but the game will be televised on either ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU.

The Nittany Lions have recently fared well in this non-conference event, winning three straight matchups. Last year, then-coach Jim Ferry led Penn State to one of its best performances in recent memory against No. 15 Virginia Tech, while the Nittany Lions dispatched Wake Forest a year prior and upset the No. 13 Hokies in 2018.

Penn State has also historically had success against the Hurricanes. The two teams have met four times, most recently in 1995. Penn State has won all four contests by an average of 14 points.

Miami struggled last season, going 10-17 overall with a 4-15 conference record. However, the Hurricanes did make the end of the season interesting by beating Pitt and Clemson to get all the way to the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Nittany Lion associate head coach Adam Fisher spent eight seasons on the Hurricanes’ staff before joining new head coach Micah Shrewsberry at Penn State in March.

The 2021-22 season is coming together for Shrewsberry and Penn State, and the game against Miami will be the fifth non-conference matchup on the schedule. The Nittany Lions will begin their season against Youngstown State on Nov. 10 and play three opponents in the Emerald Coast Classic: St. Francis Brooklyn, LSU, and either Wake Forest or Oregon State.
