Pennsylvania Surpasses 1 Million COVID-19 Cases; Centre County Adds 72 New Positives

Pennsylvania has now had more than 1 million COVID-19 cases since the state’s first were reported on March 6, 2020.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 3,623 new cases statewide on Thursday, bringing the total to 1,000,240.

Centre County added 72 cases to bring its total to 14,136.

The county also had 170 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 64,311. Across Pennsylvania, there were 7,994 new negatives for a total of 4,084,343.

Centre County’s total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 remained at 213 for the 19th consecutive day.

With 41 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 24,917.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 23 COVID-19 inpatients as of Thursday morning, an increase of two since Wednesday. The patients range in age from 18 to 84, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Statewide, hospitalizations continue to tick up with 1,717 COVID-19 inpatients, including 351 in intensive care and 184 on ventilators.

Two resident cases were removed from Centre County nursing and personal care home totals. A total of 18 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 722 resident cases, 152 employee cases and 163 resident deaths.

An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.

A total of 39,329 people in Centre County are at least partially covered by the COVID-19 vaccine. The total includes 25,095 who are fully covered, either through the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or both required doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, according to health department data.

Among Pennsylvania’s cases, 853,113 are confirmed and 147,127 are probable. In Centre County, 12,915 are confirmed and 1,221 are probable.
