The State College Area School Board of Directors is accepting applications to fill an upcoming vacancy as one member prepares to depart for a new role in county government.
Amber Concepcion, the current board president and an 11-year school director, will be stepping down later this month to become a Centre County commissioner. Concepcion was appointed to replace Commissioner Michael Pipe, who is leaving to become deputy chief of staff for public safety in Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro’s administration. Pipe will resign on Jan. 14 and Concepcion will be sworn in as commissioner shortly after that.
The school board’s remaining eight members will appoint an individual to serve out the remainder of Concepcion’s current term, which will conclude after the November municipal election. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and a resident living within the district boundaries for at least one year.
Interested applicants should submit a resume, cover letter and statement of purpose explaining their interest in and commitment to serving on the board by 4 p.m. on Jan. 26, according to a district news release. Board members will conduct the screening and selection process in public, according to the district. The vacancy will be discussed at the board’s meeting on Jan. 11.
