A new Persian restaurant is coming to the former location of a recently closed Korean eatery in Ferguson Township.
Fire & Fig Grill is getting ready to open at 1100 N. Atherton St., according to signage on the building and the restaurant’s website. It will replace Kimchi, which recently closed after 19 years in business.
An expected opening date for Fire & Fig has yet to be announced, and representatives for the restaurant did not respond to a request for comment.
“Family-run and rooted in Persian culinary tradition, Fire & Fig Grill brings together bold flavors, open-fire grilling, and saffron-infused rice in every dish,” the restaurant’s website states. “We cook with pride, welcome every guest like family, and aim to make every meal memorable.”
Fire & Fig’s menu includes a variety of kebab combos, such as barg (marinated filet mignon), koobideh (seasoned ground lamb and beef), chenjeh (veal) and chicken, as well as signature dishes featuring chicken, lamb shank, ground beef and salmon.
Specialty stews with rice include ghormeh sabzi, “herb stew with slow-cooked beef and kidney beans, simmered with parsley, cilantro, and fenugreek, and finished with tangy dried Persian limes,” according to the website. Others include gheymeh (beef cubes, yellow split peas, onions, tomatoes, dried limes and saffron, garnished with fried potatoes or fried eggplant) and fesenjan ( a sweet and sour stew with chicken slow-cooked with ground walnuts and pomegranate molasses).
The menu also offers a la carte kebab and rice options, soups and salads and desserts like saffron ice cream and rice pudding and fritters fried in rosewater syrup.
Fire & Fig is “putting the final touches” on its menu and kitchen, according to the website, where the restaurant plans to share its official opening date and sneak peeks.
