Annual Ice Cream Fest Returns to Downtown State College

Dozens of frozen treats, family activities and a fundraiser for local nonprofits will return to State College this weekend as the State College Downtown Rotary Club hosts its 11th annual Ice Cream Fest. 

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, on the 200 and 300 blocks of South Allen Street. 

Proceeds will support the Rotary club’s annual grant program, which provides funding to local nonprofit organizations and community initiatives. 

Attendees can purchase tasting tickets for $5 for five tickets or $20 for 25 tickets to sample ice cream and other frozen desserts from eight vendors. 

Participating businesses include Meyer Dairy, Ritchey’s Dairy, Vale Wood Farms, Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, Cold Stone Creamery, Sunset Slush, Galliker’s Dary, Weis Markets, Giant, Reedsville Creamery, Happy Valley Polish Water Ice and Happy Valley Creamery. 

The festival also will feature activities for children, including a petting zoo, pony rides, bounce house, face painting, sidewalk chalk, a Schlow Library activity and more. 

An ice cream eating contest featuring area high school football players is planned, sponsored by State College Dairy Queen. 

Hosted annually by the State College Downtown Rotary Club, the Ice Cream Fest serves as one of the organization’s signature fundraisers.
