College Township to Kick Off Sesquicentennial Celebration With Community Bonfire

College Township is celebrating its 150th year in 2025, and it will kick off the sesquicentennial with a community bonfire in February.

The event will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 in Spring Creek Park. The family-friendly evening will “feature a host of activities to spark community spirit and celebrate the township’s rich history,” including food trucks, music, the bonfire, s’mores and hot chocolate, according to a news release.

“This kickoff event marks the beginning of a year filled with community-centered activities to honor 150 years of College Township,” said Carla Stilson, chair of the 150th Celebration Committee and former College Township Council member. “We look forward to celebrating our history, diversity and the strong community ties that make this township special.”

College Township was incorporated on Nov. 22, 1875 out of parts of Benner and Harris townships. Today it encompasses 18.55 square miles and has a population of 10,800.

The Sesquicentennial Kickoff is open to all and will start the celebration of College Township’s past, present and future.
