Nearly two dozen Centre County eateries will be serving up special dishes to showcase the local food scene during Happy Valley Restaurant Week beginning Monday.
Through Friday, participating restaurants will offer one special dish featuring local flavors and over-the-top creations. Formerly known as Happy Valley Culinary Week, the event was relaunched two years ago by Maggie Anderson and Matt Fern with support from the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau and Centre County Commissioners’ tourism grant program.
“We hope local eaters get excited about trying out new spots or going back to old favorites for something new,” Anderson said in a statement. “It’s almost like we have a whole new restaurant scene one week a year.”
Diners are encouraged to share what they’re eating on social media using the hashtag #hvrw2022. Four random posts using the hashtag will win a gift card to the participating restaurant of their choice.
Among the specials lined up for the week is the Circus Freak milkshake at State Burger Co. in Bellefonte.
“It’s a buttered popcorn milkshake topped with all your favorite circus treats,” owner Dustin Smith said in a news release. “It’s salty sweet and tastes way better than it sounds.”
Some other features include strawberry rhubarb crisp at Federal Taphouse in State College; smoked duck breast with in-season veggies, a miso broth and a yuzu sauce at Central Reservation in State College; nasturtium salad with two dressings at RE Farm Cafe in Patton Township; spaghetti and meatball calzone at Angelo’s in Boalsburg.
