Mount Nittany Health Donates $10K to State College Food Bank

As part of its annual Season of Giving, Mount Nittany Health is donating $10,000 to the State College Food Bank.

The health system also launched an employee food drive to collect nonperishable food and essential supplies to further support the food bank’s efforts throughout the holiday season.

This initiative, according to Mount Nittany Health, reflects its ongoing commitment to addressing the social determinants of health — like food security — that have a direct impact on the wellbeing of individuals and families across our region.

“Mount Nittany Health was founded by and for this community, and the Season of Giving is an important time to come together in support of our neighbors,” Kathleen Rhine, president and CEO of Mount Nittany Health, said in a news release. “Our donation and employee food drive reflect our deep commitment to improving health by helping ensure local families have access to the essentials they need.”

Recent data from Mount Nittany Health’s Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) highlights the growing challenge of food insecurity in Centre County. The percentage of food-insecure children in the county rose from 5.7% in 2021 to 10.4% in 2022.

The employee food drive is currently underway, with contributions being delivered to the State College Food Bank to provide immediate relief and support for families across the community.
