Mount Nittany Medical Center welcomed its first newborn of 2024 early on New Year’s Day.
Parker Dean Thomas was born to Miranda and Shane Thomas, of Huntingdon, on Monday morning at the hospital in College Township. Parker weighed in at 6 pounds, 5.6 ounces.
“Parker received his very first hug at Mount Nittany Medical Center, and we’re proud to welcome Parker to Centre County,” Mount Nittany Health said in a statement.
The Joseph V. and Suzanne P. Women and Children’s Services unit at Mount Nittany delivers more than 1,200 babies each year. The unit is the largest of its kind in the region, and in 2023 Mount Nittany Medical Center was named among America’s Best Maternity Hospitals by Newsweek.
Beginning this year, Mount Nittany Health is partnering with childbirth education provider Birthly to offer free access to virtual classes, allowing expectant and new parents access educational resources from their own homes at no additional cost.
