SPRING MILLS — The Penns Valley Fiber Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Spring Mills YMCA, which is a new location for the annual event. Admission and parking are free. Additionally, goodie bags will be given to the first 50 attendees.
This sixth-annual event, which showcases fiber arts vendors, is dedicated to the memory of a local farmer and devoted fiber show participant, Sean Lacey, who passed away earlier this year. He was a multi-talented, energetic and well-liked person. He earned degrees from Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh and had a varied professional background. The fiber community knew him mainly as a “partner” in Mulberry Hill Farm, where he and his wife, Colleen, raised sheep. He also was a talented wood carver.
Twelve vendors will be offering yarn, fleece, knitting and crocheting accessories, fiber crafts and related items. Most of the vendors are fiber farmers from the region. Many of the participants are veterans at the fiber show.
Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and learn more about the work that goes into producing the products, which will be for sale. This festival will provide the opportunity to see the color and feel the yarn, both of which are important to crafters.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase from the kitchen area of the YMCA, which is located near the vendor booths.
This show also offers the opportunity to talk to the fiber farmers, hear their stories and learn about their products. Most of the products being offered for sale are handmade, hand dyed or processed on the vendors’ farms.
Most vendors will be able to accept credit cards but show officials recommend bringing some cash.
The Spring Mills YMCA is located at 115 Streamside Place.
