Rhoneymeade Fest, Children’s Fair, Spikes Opener and More Highlight Centre County Weekend

Summertime events are heating up in State College and around Centre County.

The first weekend in June brings festivals, fairs, outdoor concerts, the return of the State College Spikes and more.

Here’s a look at the highlights for Friday, June 3, through Sunday, June 5.

Topgolf Live
Thursday through Sunday
Beaver Stadium

Topgolf brings its Stadium Tour to Beaver Stadium, giving fans a chance to take swings and aim at targets on the field from the second level of the stands at the historic home of Penn State football. Toptracer technology traces the flight path of the golf balls, instantly scoring every shot in an interactive, in-stadium game designed for all skill levels. Nittany Antique Machinery Spring Show
Friday through Sunday
Penns Cave & Wildlife Park, 222 Penns Cave Road, Centre Hall

The Nittany Antique Machinery Association’s 47th annual spring show features free admission and parking each day, with a consignment sale of antique farm machinery, tractor pulls, equipment demonstrations and displays, toy tractor and equipment show, grist mill tours, a craft and flea market, parts vendors, food and on-site camping. The show opens at 9 a.m. each day.

Rhoneymeade Fest
Friday through Sunday
Downtown State College venues and Rhoneymeade, 177 Rimmey Road, Centre Hall

The second annual Rhoneymeade Fest is a three-day experimental music and arts festival with more than 30 performers, from local favorites to national acts. The outdoor event at Rhoneymeade takes place 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m, to 6 p.m. on Sunday, with music, food and drink vendors throughout each day. The festival also will incorporate downtown State College venues 3 Dots, Webster’s and Chumley’s and Zeno’s and will integrate with the June First Friday celebration.

“A festival of this scale and kind is a first for the region, and we’re excited to share this large-scale collaboration with the community and welcome visitors from across the country,” 3 Dots Executive Director Erica Quinn wrote in an email. “The Fest will bring together performers and audience members of all ages and will bridge town and gown, as well as downtown and regional arts spaces.”

First Friday

Downtown State College venues

The Downtown State College Improvement District’s monthly celebration features music, art, food shopping and more. This month’s event includes Rolando Simon performing from noon to 2 p.m. at the Downtown Farmers Market on Locust Lane; Rhoneymeade Fest events at Webster’s, 3 Dots and Chumley’s; local band Midstate Select on the MLK Plaza stage at 5:30 p.m.; Charlie Chaplin films at The State Theatre from 5 to 8 p.m.; art exhibits at Woskob Gallery, Kish Bank and the DSCID office; special events at and discounts at several businesses; and an improv comedy show at the Blue Brick Theatre. State College Spikes Home Opener
6:35 p.m. Friday
Medlar Field at Lubrano Park

The Spikes are back for their second MLB Draft League season and will open their 40-game home slate with a packed night against the Williamsport Crosscutters. Penn State football safety Ji’Ayir Brown will be on hand to sign autographs and throw out the first pitch. (QB Sean Clifford’s appearance has been rescheduled for June 11. Fans who purchased opening night tickets in anticipation of Clifford’s appearance can contact the Spikes Ticket Office at 814-272-1711.)

Other opening night activities include a poster schedule giveaway for the first 1,000 fans entering the ballpark gates, the return of Kids Run the Bases Home Run Edition, and a postgame fireworks show. Visit StateCollegeSpikes.com for ticket information.

Village Green Concert
7:30-9 p.m. Friday
Lemont Village Green, 133 Mount Nittany Road, Lemont

The Lemont Village Association kicks off its annual summer music series with a performance by bluegrass band Tussey Mountain Moonshiners.

Movie Under the Stars
9 p.m. Friday
Sidney Friedman Park, 241 S. Fraser St.

State College Borough and the Downtown Improvement District continue the summer outdoor movie series with a free showing of the 2021 Disney/Pixar film “Luca.” Bring your blankets and sit in the park to watch a movie outside with friends, family and community members.

Bellefonte Children’s Fair
10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday
Intersection of East Curtin and Armor streets, Bellefonte

An end-of-school-year tradition for more than seven decades, the Bellefonte Children’s Fair features of games, activities, entertainment, food, raffles and displays made possible by the Bellefonte Sunrise Rotary. Proceeds benefit Bellefonte Borough playgrounds.

Family Fishing Picnic
1-5 p.m., Sunday
Tussey Mountain Pond, 301 Bear Meadows Road, Boalsburg

Centred Outdoors launches its summer of adventures with the free Family Fishing Picnic, co-hosted by Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited, ClearWater Conservancy and other partner organizations. The day includes free hot dogs and drinks, kids activities, guided hikes along the Galbraith Gap Trail at 1 and 3 p.m., demonstrations and, of course, a chance to bait a hook and fish. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission provides all fishing equipment.

Summer Music Picnic Series
4-7:30 p.m., Sunday
South Hills School of Business and Technology, 480 Waupelani Drive, State College

South Hills’ Summer Music Picnic Series returns for its 33rd year at the Tom Mazza Band Shell. This summer’s opener starts with the picnic at 4 p.m. and Brazilian Munchies food truck will be on hand. The penny-a-glass lemonade tradition also continues this year. Joy Marie and the Gill Street Band then take the stage for the concert at 6 p.m.

Summer Sounds from the Gazebo
7-8 p.m., Sunday
Talleyrand Park, 320 W. High St., Bellefonte

A staple of summers in Bellefonte for 40 years, the annual free concert series kicks off for 2022 with jazz artist Jay Vonada. Lawn chairs or blankets are suggested.
