The State Theatre in State College will host the “Stand With Ukraine Through Film” project with a showing of “The Guide,” at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Ukrainian director Oles Sanin’s “The Guide” is a two-hour film set in the 1930s in Soviet Ukraine. The story centers on a young, American boy who is thrown into the path of the Soviet’s efforts to eradicate the Ukrainian people.

The “Stand With Ukraine Through Film” project has raised over $150,000 to support Ukraine, and “The Guide” has played a huge part in the project’s success. Between a feature on “Good Morning America” and showings at almost 700 cinemas, the film’s widespread impact is clear.

“We are delighted to partner with The State Theatre, as we continue to offer support to Ukraine through philanthropic efforts and the education of Americans,” spokesperson Lisa Vucelich said. “This historic venue will be providing its community members with a unique opportunity to both learn about and discuss the war’s impacts. We’re grateful for their participation, and we’re proud to be working with them in this endeavor.”

Proceeds from the event, including tickets and additional donations, will go to the “Stand With Ukraine Through Film” project to assist Ukrainians through humanitarian relief, human rights and educational organizations.
