Stuckey Mitsubishi in State College will host a special “Pack the Bus” food drive event in support of the YMCA of Centre County’s anti-hunger program on Saturday, March 1.
Community members are invited to stop by the dealership at 3400 E. College Ave. from 9 to 11 a.m. to help fill backpacks with food for children in need, with the goal of packing the Y’s Travelin’ Table mobile feeding bus, which will be on site.
The event will support the YMCA’s Backpack Program, which provides nutritious meals for school-age children in Centre and Clearfield counties. Each backpack, distributed weekly, contains two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners and two snacks to help ensure that kids have access to healthy meals when school is not in session.
Stuckey Mitsubishi and all Stuckey locations in Centre County will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items to help stock the backpacks. Special backpack cookie jars will also be available at each location for those who wish to contribute monetary donations.
The YMCA of Centre County currently provides weekly backpacks of food to all Head Start programs in Clearfield and Centre counties, as well as to six charter schools and nine school districts.
