Centre County recorded one new COVID-19 case on Sunday, marking its smallest single-day increase since July 15, 2021.
The new case brings the county’s total to 34,985 (31,073 confirmed and 3,912 probable), according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Centre County’s seven-day moving average for new cases is 11, according to DOH, up from eight a week ago and down from 41 a month ago.
Pennsylvania registered fewer than 1,000 new positives for the ninth time in 10 days. The 362 new cases bring the statewide total to 2,774,815.
The commonwealth’s seven-day average is 697, down from 871 a week ago and 2,739 a month ago. The statewide average is at its lowest since July 27.
Hospitalizations
According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, four COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, unchanged from Saturday, with none in intensive care or on ventilators. Local hospitalizations continue to be at their lowest level since mid-July.
Statewide, COVID-19 hospitalizations are at their lowest since Aug. 5. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 651 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Pennsylvania, five fewer than on Saturday, with 103 in intensive care [-1] and 56 on ventilators.
Deaths
DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents for the fifth consecutive day, keeping the total at 346.
With 38 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 44,049.
Community level
Centre County remains at the “low” community level for COVID-19 for the second consecutive week, according to the Centers for Disease Control’s latest update on Thursday.
Introduced on Feb. 25, community levels measure not only new cases, but also new hospitalizations and local hospital capacity to determine mitigation guidelines. At the low level, there is no recommendation for indoor masking.
Statewide, 66 of 67 counties are at the low level, with only Crawford County at the medium level. At the medium level, the CDC recommends masks indoors in public for those at risk of severe illness. At the high level, universal indoor public masking is recommended.
Prison cases
Rockview state prison has no COVID-19 cases among inmates or staff, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
Centre County’s other state prison, Benner, has two cases among staff and none among inmates.
At Benner, 1,419 inmates are fully vaccinated, 16 are partially vaccinated and 204 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 313 are fully vaccinated and 315 are not vaccinated.
Rockview has 1,721 inmates who are fully vaccinated, three who are partially vaccinated and 82 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 351 are fully vaccinated and 366 are not vaccinated.
Vaccinations
As of Sunday morning, 94,578 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 17 since the last update on Friday, and 14,157 are partially covered [+24]. Booster doses have been administered to 49,497 county residents [+80.
Among the county’s entire population, 69.6% have received at least one dose, 59.3% are fully vaccinated and 51.1% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75% have received at least one dose, 63.4% are fully vaccinated and 53.7% have received a booster.
Statewide, 76.9% of adults and 67.4% of the total population are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
All individuals age 12 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
