Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 134 more cases of the virus on Wednesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The death is the county’s 318th since the start of the pandemic and 29th reported this month. The new cases bring the county’s total to 32,541 (29,041 confirmed and 3,500 probable).
Centre County’s moving seven-day average for new cases is 215, down from 251 a week ago.
Pennsylvania reported 12,748 new positives to increase the statewide total to 2,605,439. The commonwealth’s seven-day average is 14,187, down from 22,551 a week ago.
With 183 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 39,932.
Hospitalizations
Mount Nittany Medical Center has 55 COVID-19 inpatients, nine more than on Tuesday, with four in intensive care [-1] and three on ventilators.
The patients range in age from 20 to 96, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twenty-three are fully vaccinated and 32 are not vaccinated.
Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 hospitalizations declined for the 10th consecutive day and fell below 6,000 for the first time in three weeks. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 5,789 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide, 273 fewer than on Tuesday, with 909 patients in intensive care [-30] and 590 on ventilators [+4].
Nursing and Personal Care Home Cases
Long-term care facilities in Centre County reported four new COVID-19 cases among residents and four among among employees. A total of 20 nursing and personal care homes in the county have had a combined 740 resident cases, 710 employee cases and 180 resident deaths.
Prison cases
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has four active COVID-19 cases among inmates and 23 among staff.
Rockview state prison has 55 active inmate cases and 47 among staff [+1].
Both facilities are in Benner Township.
At Benner, 1,472 inmates are fully vaccinated, 12 are partially vaccinated and 196 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 307 are fully vaccinated and 321 are not vaccinated.
Rockview has 1,695 inmates who are fully vaccinated, one who is partially vaccinated and 60 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 344 are fully vaccinated and 373 are not vaccinated.
Transmission level
All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Vaccinations
As of Wednesday morning, 92,707 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 54 since Tuesday, and 13,979 are partially covered [+21]. Booster doses have been administered to 46,432 county residents [+142].
Among the county’s entire population, 68.2% have received at least one dose, 58.1% are fully vaccinated and 48.7% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 73.5% have received at least one dose, 62.4% are fully vaccinated and 51.3% have received a booster.
Statewide, 75.3% of adults and 65.4% of the total population are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
