Centre County Adds 1 COVID-19 Death, 44 Cases

Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 44 more cases of the virus on Thursday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The death is the county’s 242nd attributed to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and seventh reported this month.

The new cases bring Centre County’s total to 20,291 (18,357 confirmed and 1,934 probable).

Pennsylvania added 4,998 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,525,813.

With 94 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 30,815.

The county also had 82 new negative test results for a total of 81,685. Statewide there were 8,013 negatives to bring the total to 5,644,883.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 39 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, three more than on Wednesday, with one in intensive care and one on a ventilator

Mount Nittany Medical Center did not update its COVID-19 inpatient dashboard with age ranges and vaccination status as of 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. On Wednesday, the medical center’s COVID inpatients ranged in age from 18 to 92, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Eight were fully vaccinated and 28 were not vaccinated.

Statewide, Pennsylvania has 2,929 COVID-19 inpatients, a decrease of 27 since Wednesday, with 668 in intensive care [-10] and 388 on ventilators [-10].

An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

DOH did not update vaccination numbers as of 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. As of Wednesday morning, 84,297 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+66 since Tuesday] and 6,733 are partially covered [+30]. Third doses have been administered to 6,447 county residents [+290].

Among the county’s entire population, 64.1% have received at least one dose and 54.4% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 71.4% have received at least one dose and 60.5% are fully vaccinated

Statewide, 71% of adults and 59.8% of the total population are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.
