Centre County Adds 104 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 15,744 New Positives

Centre County reported 104 new COVID-19 cases on Monday to increase its total to 30,624, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 27,538 are confirmed and 3,086.

Pennsylvania added 15,744 COVID-19 positives to bring the statewide total to 2,474,466.

Monday’s statewide total was the lowest single-day increase since Dec. 28, although it follows a trend of lower reporting following weekends. On Sunday, the commonwealth recorded its second largest increase of the pandemic and the seven-day moving average is 30,029.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center has 39 COVID-19 inpatients, three fewer than on Sunday, with seven in intensive care [+1] and six on ventilators.

The patients range in age from 37 to 96, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Nine are fully vaccinated and 30 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 hospitalizations fell for the third consecutive day. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard 7,165 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide, 110 fewer than on Sunday, with 1,128 patients in intensive care [+9] and 695 on ventilators [-12].

Deaths

DOH did not update COVID-19 death totals on Monday. As of Sunday, Pennsylvania has had 38,619 deaths attributed to the virus, including 305 among Centre County residents.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has two active COVID-19 case among inmates and 22 among staff.

Rockview state prison has 24 active inmate cases and 53 among staff.

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,489 inmates are fully vaccinated, 13 are partially vaccinated and 193 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 306 are fully vaccinated and 322 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,696 inmates who are fully vaccinated, one who is partially vaccinated and 58 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 342 are fully vaccinated and 375 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Monday morning, 92,223 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 12 since Sunday, and 13,756 are partially covered [+42]. Booster doses have been administered to 40,673 county residents [+29].

Among the county’s entire population, 67.4% have received at least one dose, 57.6% are fully vaccinated and 43.5% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 72.7% have received at least one dose, 62% are fully vaccinated and 45.8% have received a booster.

Statewide, 74.9% of adults and 64.9% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
