Centre County Adds 14 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Adds 1,187 New Positives

Centre County recorded 14 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, its smallest increase in six days, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 35,496 (31,478 confirmed and 4,018 probable) since March 2020, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Centre County’s rolling seven-day average for new cases is 20.1, down from 20.6 a week ago and up from 9.1 a month ago.

Pennsylvania reported more than 1,000 new cases for the sixth consecutive day. The 1,187 new positives bring the statewide total to 2,808,171.

The commonwealth’s seven-day average is 1,436 up from 1,252 a week ago and 601 a month ago.

Hospitalizations

Three COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, unchanged from Saturday, according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. None are in intensive care or on ventilators.

Statewide, 504 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Pennsylvania, five fewer than on Saturday, with 64 in intensive care [-5] and 36 on ventilators [+6].

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents for the 14th consecutive day, keeping the total at 348.

With six new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is 44,608.

Community Level

Centre County remains at the “low” community level for COVID-19 for the seventh consecutive week, according to the Centers for Disease Control’s latest update on Friday.

Community levels measure new cases, new hospitalizations and local hospital capacity to determine mitigation guidelines. At the low level, there is no recommendation for indoor masking.

Statewide, 63 of 67 counties are at the low level, with Tioga at medium and Bradford, Sullivan and Susquehanna at high. At the medium level, the CDC recommends masks indoors in public for those at risk of severe illness. At the high level, universal indoor public masking is recommended.

Prison cases

Centre County’s two state prisons — Benner and Rockview — have no COVID-19 cases among inmates or staff, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

At Benner, 1,420 inmates are fully vaccinated, 24 are partially vaccinated and 207 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 306 are fully vaccinated and 323 are not vaccinated.

At Rockview, 1,703 inmates are fully vaccinated, two are partially vaccinated and 80 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 350 are fully vaccinated and 368 are not vaccinated.

Vaccinations

As of Sunday morning, 95,336 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 18 since Saturday, and 14,219 are partially covered [-6]. Booster doses have been administered to 50,488 county residents [+12].

Among the county’s entire population, 70.2% have received at least one dose, 59.7% are fully vaccinated and 51.7% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.6% have received at least one dose, 63.9% are fully vaccinated and 54.3% have received a booster.

Statewide, 77.7% of adults and 68.2% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination appointments are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

All individuals age 12 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. All individuals 50 and older and certain immunocompromised individuals are now eligible for a second booster shot.
