Centre County Adds 140 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 13,459 New Positives

Centre County reported 140 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday to increase its total to 30,764, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 27,669 are confirmed and 3,095.

Pennsylvania added 13,459 COVID-19 positives to bring the statewide total to 2,487,925.

Tuesday’s statewide total was the lowest since Dec. 28 and marked a second straight day of declining case increases, although reporting has typically been lower following weekends and holidays throughout the pandemic. The seven-day moving average is 24,484.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center has 48 COVID-19 inpatients, nine more than on Monday, with six in intensive care [-1] and five on ventilators [-1].

The patients range in age from 33 to 96, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Thirteen are fully vaccinated and 35 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 hospitalizations saw a slight uptick after three consecutive days of decreases. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard 7,188 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized statewide, 23 more than on Monday, with 1,115 patients in intensive care [-13] and 689 on ventilators [-6].

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to COVID-19 among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 305.

With 36 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 38,655.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has two active COVID-19 case among inmates and 22 among staff.

Rockview state prison has 24 active inmate cases and 53 among staff.

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,489 inmates are fully vaccinated, 13 are partially vaccinated and 193 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 306 are fully vaccinated and 322 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,696 inmates who are fully vaccinated, one who is partially vaccinated and 58 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 342 are fully vaccinated and 375 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

DOH did not update COVID-19 vaccination data on Tuesday. As of Monday morning, 92,223 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 13,756 are partially covered. Booster doses have been administered to 40,673 county residents.

Among the county’s entire population, 67.4% have received at least one dose, 57.6% are fully vaccinated and 43.5% are fully vaccinated with a booster, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 72.7% have received at least one dose, 62% are fully vaccinated and 45.8% have received a booster.

Statewide, 74.9% of adults and 64.9% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All individuals age 12 and older are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
