Centre County reported 50 new COVID-19 cases on Friday to bring its total to 16,325, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 4,607 positives for a statewide total of 1,151,005. According to the health department, one lab submitted nearly 300 test results dating back to December and another “submitted a large file of test results that were collected within the last three days.”

The county also also had 102 additional negative test results to increase its total to 67,912. Across Pennsylvania, there were 9,696 new negatives for a total of 4,392,676.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 19 COVID-19 inpatients, three fewer than on Thursday. The patients range in age from 34 to 100, according to a hospital spokesperson. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, two Centre County COVID-19 patients are in intensive care and two are on ventilators.

For the month of April, Mount Nittany had 149 COVID related admissions, and an average daily census of 26 COVID positive inpatients, up from 124 admissions and an average census of 18 in March. April marked the hospital’s third highest average daily census of COVID inpatients and is the third highest month of COVID admissions since the pandemic began, according to Tiffany Cabibbo, executive vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer.

This week, COVID-19 inpatient numbers have declined from 35 on Monday to 19 on Friday.

“This week we were proud to announce that with a total of more than 40,000 doses given or currently scheduled, we continue to lead COVID-19 vaccination efforts in Centre County,” Cabibbo said in a statement. “However, with less than 33 percent of Centre County fully vaccinated, we still have a long way to go until the majority of our community is vaccinated and we begin to experience herd immunity.

“With all Pennsylvanians ages 16 and older eligible to schedule their vaccination appointments – 16- and 17-year-olds are currently eligible for the Pfizer vaccine – we strongly encourage everyone that is eligible to sign up for a vaccine as soon as possible.”

COVID-19 vaccinations are available by appointment through Mount Nittany Health, Centre Volunteers in Medicine, and multiple pharmacies and by appointment of walk-in at the state-run regional vaccination clinic in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Cabibbo also urged community members to continue practicing safety measures including masking, frequent hand washing and social distancing.

Statewide, Pennsylvania has 2,283 COVID-19 inpatients, a decrease of 35 since Thursday, with 518 patients in intensive care [-4] and 272 on ventilators [-23].

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the county’s total at 220.

With 39 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide on Friday, Pennsylvania’s total is now 26,218.

An estimated 89% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.

As of Friday morning, 50,694 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 20,764 are partially covered.

Among Pennsylvania’s cases, 969,222 are confirmed and 181,783 are probable. In Centre County, 14,891 are confirmed and 1,434 are probable.
