Former president and current Republican nominee Donald Trump is no longer planning to attend the Penn State-Ohio State football game on Saturday at Beaver Stadium, a university spokesperson told StateCollege.com on Wednesday.

“The University has been notified that former President Donald Trump will no longer be attending the Ohio State-Penn State football game,” Penn State spokesman Wyatt DuBois said.

Trump had been invited by a “private citizen” to attend the noon game in a suite and the U.S. Secret Service was working with local law enforcement on security planning, the university confirmed last week.

Penn State did not provide a reason for his decision not to attend the game, which will be played three days before Election Day, or when the university was notified.

It would have been Trump’s second visit to State College in a week. He held a campaign rally on Oct. 26 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

That has been the only visit by a presidential candidate to Centre County this election cycle, though surrogates for both the Republican and Democratic tickets have made stops in State College.

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stumped for Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris at The State Theatre on Oct. 18, and two days later five Democratic governors, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, held a rally for the Harris-Walz campaign at Penn State. A “Team Trump” bus tour featuring former Trump administration officials and others also made a stop at Penn State.

The game between No. 3 Penn State and No. 4 Ohio State, meanwhile, will already have significant national attention as one of the marquee college football matchups of the season. ESPN’s College GameDay, FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff and CBS Sports pundit Josh Pate’s Whole New Saturday Tour are all set to air from University Park on Saturday.
