“Johnny Cash — The Official Concert Experience,” a stage and multimedia performance, will bring songs and stories from the “Man in Black” to Penn State’s Eisenhower Auditorium on Feb. 20.
As video from episodes of “The Johnny Cash Show” are projected on a screen above the stage, a live band and singers will accompany Cash, who died in 2003 after a legendary career that spanned 50 years.
The concert experience showcases iconic performances from the TV show, the musician’s critically acclaimed variety series that ran from 1969 to 1971, with Cash performing renowned and influential hits such as “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Ring of Fire” and “I Walk the Line.” It will also feature some of his memorable words and anecdotes, sharing the stories of the working men and women whose causes he championed.
On stage, male and female singers will split vocal duties performing their own takes on Cash’s hits.
The show also features on-screen narration by Cash’s son, John Carter Cash.
“My father’s music has resonated deeply with fans around the world, and we’re looking forward to bringing this music experience to cities across North America,” he said in a news release. “I will help narrate the evening and share some intimate stories from my father’s personal life and career in music.”
