STATE COLLEGE — On April 20, Mount Nittany Health hosted its annual volunteer recognition luncheon, honoring 669 individuals who provide more than 63,000 hours of service across its system each year.
“Our volunteers’ kindness is infectious, and their compassion and dedication, admirable,” said Meredith Thompson, director of volunteer resources at Mount Nittany Health. “They each are a constant reminder that whether we are friends, family or strangers, we are all given the opportunity to make someone’s day.”
In addition to honoring all volunteers, the event also is where teen volunteer scholarship recipients are announced. To receive the award, students must be graduating in 2018 from a local high school, have completed a minimum of 200 hours of volunteer service with Mount Nittany Health and be pursuing a career in health care from an accredited institution. This year’s winners are Kaitlin Carter and Rebecca Stroschein.
Carter has been volunteering since January 2015, logging 200 hours to date. Currently a patient floor and Nittany Grill volunteer, she is looking to pursue a nursing career. She plans to attend Penn State University.
Logging 323 hours to date, Stroschein has been volunteering on patient floors since July 2015 and wants to pursue a career in the health care field. She plans to attend Lock Haven University.
