2nd Alarm Fire Destroys Garage in Halfmoon Township

Fire companies from four counties responded to a second alarm blaze that destroyed a large garage and several vehicles on Thursday in Halfmoon Township.

Port Matilda Fire Company was dispatched to the 200 block of Smith Road at about 5:10 p.m. and found the garage behind a home on fire with an active power pole arcing and multiple cars engulfed, the volunteer fire company wrote in a Facebook post.

A total of eight fire companies responded to the scene. Crews from Port Matilda fire company set up large diameter hose and a drop tank. They were assisted by personnel from Alpha and Warriors Mark fire companies in extinguishing the fire, while Boalsburg Fire Company set up a fill site and mutual aid tankers from Centre, Blair, Clearfield and Huntingdon counties assisted Port Matilda’s engine tanker.

Port Matilda and Warriors Mark brush truck crews also extinguished a small wildfire that started in a pasture from the garage blaze.

The garage was “a total loss,” according to the post, and extensive overhaul was required because of cars, equipment and round bales on site.

No injuries were reported, and a fire marshal is investigating the cause.

Port Matilda Fire Company commanded the scene, assisted by Alpha, Boalsburg, Bald Eagle, Morris Township, Neptune, Pleasant Gap and Warriors Mark fire companies. Port Matilda EMS was on standby.
