Tired of the frigid weather? Don’t worry; State College isn’t locked into a winter freeze just yet.

“This coming Monday, we’re going to have record-challenging warmth,” Accuweather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski says. “It’s really going to be on the opposite of the spectrum from what we’ve been having.”

After trudging through days with high temperatures struggling to get out of the teens, the weekend will see a gradual warm up. Saturday’s temps are expected to be closer to the November average, hovering in the mid-40s. Sunday will be even warmer, with an increase up into the low 50s.

Then comes the big relief. On Monday temperatures will skyrocket to the mid 60’s. With some luck, Pydynowski says Monday might even break the November record high of 64 degrees, set all the way back in 1896.

But the warm-up has a catch.

“We’re going to get a steady period of rain on Sunday evening, with a shower or two lingering into Monday,” Pydynowski says.

Tuesday will dry out, but it will also begin to cool down. Temperatures will gradually sink back down, settling in the lower 40s just in time for Thanksgiving.

“Temperatures will still be a little lower than normal, but considering what we’ve just been through, they won’t feel as bad,” Pydynowski says.
