The Frisbie legacy continues.
The Penn State Blue Band on Sunday named trombone player Jack Frisbie as the 59th drum major in the organization’s history after a three-day process to announce the next in line among five prospective candidates.
“As the judges and I deliberated, we all agreed that any one of the five candidates could serve as the Drum Major and be successful, but today Jack Frisbie excelled in all facets,” Gregory Drane, Blue Band head director, said.
Jack Frisbie will succeed his brother, Jimmy Frisbie, who served as drum major in 2015 and 2016. Jimmy was also the Homecoming King in 2016.
“Being the Blue Band Drum Major represents a great opportunity to give back to the organization that has shaped so much of my time here at Penn State,” Jack Frisbie said. “I was both shocked and relieved when they called my name and I can’t wait to begin my job in this position of service.”
Jack, who will be a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering in the fall, was the drum major of Fisherville (Va.) Wilson Memorial High School’s band during his senior year.
His parents met in the Blue Band and his grandfather was the president of the Blue Band back in 1960.
