For anyone who’s ever coveted what thy neighbor has, now’s the chance to snatch it.

Penn State’s 11th annual Trash to Treasure Event is scheduled for June 2, and volunteers are encouraged to sign up now.

Touted as the university’s ‘biggest town-gown recycling effort,’ Trash to Treasure comes to Beaver Stadium on June 2 for its award-winning spring sale. Penn State officials said the event raises around $50,000 every year for the Centre County United Way.

Anyone interested in volunteering can now register on the Trash to Treasure website. Several shift options are available, and no prior experience is necessary to participate. As extra incentive, volunteers will receive a coupon that can be used toward items on the day of the sale.

Trash to Treasure kicks off at 7:30 a.m. on June 2 at Gate B at Beaver Stadium with an early bird sale. The regular sale starts at 9 a.m., Penn State officials said.

Over the years, thousands of people have snagged huge deals on donated items including clothing, furniture, electronics, rugs and anything else that has been either donated or saved via Penn State residence halls and other facilities.

Trash to Treasure has raised $490,000 in the past decade of its existence and salvaged more than 600 tons of goods that would otherwise be shipped to a landfill.
