Two men face felony charges after an anonymous tip to police identified them as the burglars who allegedly broke into a State College apartment last month.

The charges stem from an incident on Sep. 4, when police responded to call about a burglary at an East Beaver Avenue apartment. The victim told police that early that morning he and friends were on their apartment balcony when they got in a verbal argument with two men on the sidewalk below. When they left their apartment at about 1:00 a.m., they once again got into an argument with the same two men as they were leaving.

When the victim returned, he reportedly found his belongings out of place in his apartment and his laptop missing. When police retrieved video surveillance from inside the apartment building, it reportedly showed the two men with whom the victim had argued entering the apartment and then leaving with the laptop.

After having their photos publicized in the local media, police say an anonymous tip identified the alleged thieves as Justin Brenneman, 30, of Tryone, and Steven Knaub, also 30, of York.

Police say both men admitted to entering the apartment. Knaub reportedly admitted to taking the laptop, while Brenneman reportedly admitted to tossing the laptop into a nearby dumpster after they left.

Both men face felony charges of burglary and trespassing, as well as misdemeanor charges of theft and receiving stolen property. They were arraigned in front Magisterial District Judge Carmine Prestia, and agreed to keep future court appearances without paying bail.

Brenneman and Knaub now await an Oct. 21 preliminary hearing.
