The attorney for Emmanuil Kaidanov says he should know soon what legal action will be taken, if any, regarding Kaidanov’s split with Penn State. Kaidanov, a highly successful coach, left his position last week, ending 31 years as the head of the men’s and women’s fencing teams.

Attorney Alvin DeLevie says Kaidanov was fired, although that has not been confirmed by Penn State. DeLevie says he and Kaidanov are still evaluating their. DeLevie also said there is no comment that Kaidanov wants to give at the moment.

“Kaidanov doesn’t have any statements forthcoming until the situation is fully evaluated and at that time possibly a statement will be given,” DeLevie said.

DeLevie also said that Kaidanov is getting an outpouring of emails and letters of support from all over the world. DeLevie also wanted to reiterate that Penn State overreacted and that the firing was wrong.

This statement comes a day after the announcement by Penn State that Wieslaw Glon was named interim Head Coach for the men’s and women’s fencing teams after serving as Associate Head Coach for the past few years. Glon joined the Penn State fencing program as assistant coach in 1985.

Kaidanov has led his fencing teams to a combined 12 National Collegiate Athletic Assocation championships. His teams won NCAA crowns in 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2007, 2009,2010.

Kaidanov’s fencers have earned 28 NCAA Individual Titles. Kaidanov has coached 10 Olympians and 188 All-Americans.

Penn State Athletics Department spokesperson Jeff Nelson released a statement Saturday night saying, “This is a confidential personnel matter and we therefore are not at liberty to discuss it. He no longer is a University employee.”
