Beaver Stadium Overnight RV Lot Closed Until Friday Morning After Heavy Rain

For the second week in a row, Beaver Stadium’s overnight RV lot will have a delayed opening because severe weather.

After about 3 inches of rain over the past 24 hours saturated the grounds, all RVs arriving with Thursday night permits are being directed to Grange Park in Centre Hall.

The Beaver Stadium ORV Lot will open at 10 a.m. on Friday. It typically opens at 6 p.m. on Thursday’s ahead of Penn State football home games.

Those arriving on Thursday only need to show their ORV permits at Grange Park and will not be charged. ORV permit holders with questions should email ORVlot@psu.edu.

Last week, opening of the lot was delayed after a sever thunderstorm knocked down trees, utility poles and power lines and overturned portable toilets

According to the state climatologist office at Penn State, 2.82 inches of rain fell over the 24-hour period ending at 8 a.m. on Thursday, a daily record.

Penn State meteorology professor Steve Seman wrote on Twitter that it was the third wettest September day on record in State College, and wettest day overall in more than five years.

By the time rain ended late Thursday morning, the storm had brought a total of 2.94 inches.

State College has had 7.73 inches of rain so far this month, the fifth highest September total on record, Seman wrote.

Elsewhere in Centre County, the impacts were greater. The National Weather Service forecasted Bald Eagle Creek near Beech Creek station will crest at 11.5 feet on Thursday after, just above minor flood stage.

NWS also reported that 5 to 5.5 inches of rain fell in the Spring Mills and Millheim areas. Elk Creek and Penns Creek were running high with minor flooding expected.
