A suspect is in custody after a Bellefonte woman was found dead in her home Monday night.
Police and Logan, Undine and Pleasant Gap fire departments were dispatched to a home at the intersection of North Parkview Boulevard and Shady Lane Extension for a dwelling fire at about 11 p.m. on Monday. District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller, who confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide investigation, said when responders arrived they found a woman in her 40s dead.
Parks Miller said the suspect in the woman’s death left the scene and was apprehended after being involved in an automobile accident.
‘He is in police custody,’ Parks Miller said.
The name of the woman and the suspect have not been released. Charges have not yet been filed.
WJAC-TV reported on Tuesday morning that the suspect is the woman’s husband and that a Bellefonte Police source said the couple got into an argument before the woman was killed. Police reportedly said he tried to burn the house after the woman’s death then fled.
There was no visible damage to the exterior of the home.
The suspect was taken into custody after crashing on Interstate 80 near Jersey Shore and is in the hospital, WJAC reported. Police reportedly said he is expected to be charged with homicide.
Bellefonte, Spring Township and Pennsylvania State police were at the house on Tuesday along with members of the district attorney’s office. Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers arrived and left a short while later. He said he couldn’t comment yet as experts had just arrived and begun their work. He said he expected it to be several hours before his office could provide any information.
