Georgi Bennett will run for Centre County recorder of deeds in this year’s municipal election.
A Democrat and Potter Township resident, Bennett said in announcing her candidacy that she has an extensive background in the public and private sectors, with experience in finance, budgeting and customer service.
Bennett said she is running for recorder of deeds because she values the importance of involvement in local politics to fairly represent the community in public service.
She also wants to raise awareness about the recorder of deeds office.
“I’d like to educate my community about what the row office does and what it can do for others,’ she said. ‘By doing that, I’ll be giving back to my community in the best way possible.”
A Centre County native and graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School, Bennett currently co-owns a small farm, where she raises horses and beef cattle with her husband, Ralph. She is active with the Centre County Democratic Committee, the Centre Hall Lions Club and the Fraternal Order of Police.
She has worked as customer service account analyst, a budgeting and accounting assistant and in the Clinton County Recorder and Register Office.
‘Bennett’s excellence in finance, organization, servicing the public, and experience working in the Clinton County Recorder and Register office is why she believes she is an ideal candidate for the office,’ her campaign announcement said.
Bennett previously ran for recorder of deeds in 2015.
Republican incumbent Joseph Davidson has announced he will seek re-election for a sixth term as recorder of deeds.
The Recorder of Deed’s Office records, protects, preserves and reproduces legal documents related to real estate in Centre County. It also acts as official agent for the Real Estate Transfer Tax, collects certain other fees and taxes and records veterans’ military discharge documents.
The primary election is May 21. Tuesday was the first day to circulate and file nomination petitions.
