Before you make your coffee Saturday, be sure to leave a bag of non-perishable donations on your doorstep for the annual “Scouting for Food” drive.

Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and “venturing” scouts from the Boy Scouts of America will be visiting Centre County residents Saturday to collect food for the drive.

The donations will be delivered to local food banks, including the State College Area Food Bank. “It’s one of our major drives,” said Ernest Boyd, manager of operations for the food bank. “It should keep us going for about six months.”

Residents should put their items in a bag that’s visible from the porch by 8 a.m. If they’re too late, they can call the State College Area Food Bank at (814) 234-2310 after 12 p.m., and a representative will pick up the goods at their house.

Requested items include these:

  • Canned meat

  • Vegetable oil

  • Sugar

  • Mayonnaise

  • Salad dressing
